Pneumology Tunisia

What is pneumology?

Pulmonology refers to the specialty that is concerned with the functioning of the respiratory system (lungs, bronchi, pleura and trachea ...)

Patients who suffer from a persistent cough, abnormal secretion of bronchial mucus, shortness of breath accentuated by exertion (dyspnea), chest pain, sleep disturbances or even traces of blood in a sputum should in in most cases, see a pulmonologist urgently.

Bronchial fibroscopy at the el yosr international clinic

Bronchial fibroscopy, what is it?

The objective of this examination is to explore a person's trachea and bronchi in order to visualize abnormalities and to take samples (aspiration of secretions, brushing, biopsies, alveolar lavage, lymph node puncture, etc.).

It is an essential test for the diagnosis of lung and / or bronchial disease. It can look for infections, inflammation, or cancer cells.

Bronchial endoscopy is an endoscopic examination that involves the introduction through the natural airways (nose or mouth) of a flexible, small-caliber tube called a fiberscope. This device will go down to the bronchi, allow them to be seen and to take samples if necessary.

How is the intervention going?

Some medicines should be stopped before the test, especially those that thin the blood. However, these drugs should never be stopped without the advice of a doctor.

It is essential to have an empty stomach 6 hours before the exam (do not drink, eat or smoke).

Bronchial fibroscopy is most often performed under local anesthesia, on an outpatient basis (consultation). The exam takes about 15 minutes. The operator introduces the fiberscope through the nose, more rarely through the mouth. The patients then remain under observation for about 20 minutes. Endoscopy can also be done if needed under general anesthesia.

It is carried out with an endoscope sterilized according to the standards in force. This exam is painless but sometimes unpleasant.
